The following are general guidelines for submissions to Rochester1.com:
- Rochester1.com accepts most previously-unpublished works that relate to Rochester, NY.
- Simultaneous submissions (articles that you wrote for your blog or own web site or other local publication) are acceptable. Check with the editor of the other publication to see if it's all right with them.
- Rochester1.com takes a one-time, non-exclusive copyright of all articles or stories accepted for publication unless otherwise agreed to. All articles published on the Rochester1.com site remain the property of the author, and are archived at Rochester1.com.
- Articles, suggestions, press releases and stories can be submitted via our online form or by email, either as attachments or in the body of the email itself. Send stories to editor here.
- Articles, stories and press releases sent by USPS snail mail to Rochester1.com, 29 Owen Street, Rochester, NY 14615, have little to no chance of ever being published on our site. This is the 21st century and we all use computers (even my 82-year-old father), so retyping articles is pretty much not on the to-do list.
- Currently, we do not pay directly for articles, but payment is provided for free-lancers and other journalists. How that is accomplished is explained below.
Rochester1.com, devoted to establishing an independent voice, sets aside 10% of all advertising revenue to pay writers. Writers pay is dependent on four criteria: 1) How many articles a writer produces in a month; 2) the relative length and value of those articles (general articles receive 5 points; longer, researched articles, 10 points; extraordinary work, 20 or more points); 3) The percentatge of a writer's point total to the overall total for the month; 4) Gross ad revenue by Rochester1.com in a given month.
Here's an example:
Month: July, 2007
Bob: 5 short articles, 25 points, 25% of total.
Jane: 3 short articles, 1 longer article, 25 points, 25% of total.
Ryan: 4 short articles, 3 longer articles, 50 points, 50% of total.
Total: 12 short articles, 4 longer articles = 100 total points
10% of Gross Ad Revenue for July: ($2000.00 — 10) = $200.00
Bob and Jane would each receive $50.00; Ryan would receive $100.00.
That's it! Now, get busy writng so I can sell more ads!
